Performs routine laboratory tasks related to processing wohle
blood and blood components: Centrifuges whole blood to produce
various components including packed red cells, platelet
concentrate, washed red cells, and plasma.
Examines blood stock
at designated intervals to confirm that all units are in
satisfactory cnodition.
Observes thermostats on storage units to
confirm that temperature remains constant at designated
temperature.
Inspects blood units returned from hospitals to
determine whether plasma can be salvaged and if so refers to
plamsa salvage unit. Confirms that sedimentation has occurred,
that color is normal, and that containers are in satisfatcory
condition. Cleans and maintains laobratory equipment, supplies,
and laboratory.
Performs related clercial duties including
updating statistical records, labeling tubes, and scheduling
processing runs.
